Home Health Agency or Home Care Agency?
Is there really a difference between a Home Health Agency and a Home Care Agency?
Yes. A Home Health Agency is Medicare certified and requires Home Health licensure. Home Health Agencies must meet federal and state requirements and are authorized to bill Medicare/Medicaid for skilled services rendered in accordance with the Medicare conditions of participation. Eligibility criteria must be met in order for the patient to receive skilled services under the direction of a physician.
Unlike Home Health Agencies, Home Care Agencies do not bill Medicare/Medicaid for services rendered. Private duty services requested are paid for directly by clients, family, or other authorized representatives for services rendered upon your/their request. The state of Hawaii neither requires nor does it have any process in place for private duty licensure.
